Elevator Mechanic

About the role

Amentum is seeking an Elevator Mechanic to support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing elevators and related equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation in a remote overseas environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe workplace and comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements.
• Locate and diagnose faults in brakes, motors, switches, and control systems using test equipment such as voltmeters, ammeters, and ohmmeters.
• Disassemble defective units, repair or replace parts including locks, gears, cables, and safety devices.
• Lubricate bearings and other components to minimize friction.
• Install or repair transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, and conduit systems.
• Perform preventative maintenance according to published schedules and provide input on maintenance task upgrades.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with an apprenticeship program and Journeyman’s Certificate or equivalent experience.
• Familiarity with engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and manufacturers’ manuals.
• Knowledge of applicable US/EU electrical codes and elevator maintenance procedures.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, multi‑task environment and adapt to changing priorities.
• Valid passport (minimum one year) and ability to obtain required visas and facility credentials.

Required skills

• Electrical testing tools: voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, continuity tester, frequency counter.
• Mechanical maintenance: brakes, motors, gears, cables, safety devices, lubrication.
• Blueprint and schematic reading.
• Preventive maintenance planning.
• Microsoft Word and Excel proficiency.
