Assistant Fire Chief of Operations

About the role

The Assistant Fire Chief of Operations will lead the Fire and Emergency Services department on Diego Garcia, ensuring operational readiness, compliance with fire safety standards, and effective emergency response for a critical U.S. Navy program.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership and management for fire department operations, including firefighting, rescue, and hazardous materials mitigation.
• Lead fire prevention efforts such as inspections, compliance assessments, and community outreach.
• Develop and implement emergency action plans and ensure readiness for various fire and emergency scenarios.
• Supervise personnel assignments, training programs, and maintain certifications.
• Prepare and manage budgets for equipment, supplies, and personnel.
• Maintain accurate incident reports, operational data, and act as liaison with local, municipal, and military stakeholders.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of experience leading a fire prevention section or division of comparable size.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and obtain necessary security clearances.
• Valid passport with at least one year remaining and ability to obtain required visas.
• Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.

Required skills

• Certification as Assistant Chief of Operations.
• Fire Inspector III certification.
• Plans Examiner I certification.
• Ability to complete NFPA 101 Life Safety Course within two years of employment.
